Dear Brethren, in Discipleship 101 we ask; Not Born Again? In the book of John Chapter 3, the Bible gives an account of our Lord Jesus Christ’s responses to a great man named Nicodemus. Nicodemus was a Pharisee, and a member of the Jewish ruling council. Its very interesting to note that he came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.” Its at this point that Jesus Spoke a million words in one sentence; “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”
Then just like any other person who is not born again today, Nicodemus was curious and asked; “How can someone be born when they are old?”>>> “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” Jesus was ready with an answer; “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Jesus went further to confirm that “Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit” I like the part where Jesus even asks Nicodemus not to be surprised when he said ‘You must be born again.’
After this Jesus gave Nicodemus some harsh realities;
a) In verse 8 Jesus tells him “The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
b) In verse 10 Jesus continues to remind Nicodemus “You are Israel’s teacher,” “and do you not understand these things?
c) In verse 16 Jesus said “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
Finally Jesus summarized the discussion as follows;
In Verse 20 “Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed”
In Verse 21 “But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God”
Not Born Again? The scripture says, “Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved”. If you would like to know Christ, all you have to do is receive the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ by saying a prayer of salvation. Pray this aloud,
“Lord Jesus, I repent of my sins. Come into my heart. Wash me clean. I make you my Lord and Savior, Amen”.
I believe that if you prayed that simple prayer you have been born again. You are starting with a clean slate, and you have entered into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Keep God first place in your life. Learn to pray: prayer is simply talking to God like you would talk to a friend. Mark today’s date, write it down in your Bible, if you don’t have one buy it today, this is the day of new beginnings in your life!
